You might want to get checked out for a Hiatus hernia ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiatus_hernia ) as my Mum has this problem and the symptoms are similar to heartburn much of the time. Her doctor told her to avoid wheat based products, so anything made with flour was out, (including the dumplings I added to a stew I made and gave her some of). I am assuming bread could therefore cause the same problem.
