How can you say that laughter is the best medicine?

I have heard that laughter is the best medicine. When I got my stomachache, I laughed so frequently, but my stomach was still suffering from stomachache. So how is it?

Laughter triggers healthy physical changes in the body. laughter strengthen your immune system, boost your energy and protect you from the damaging effects of stress.

Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow....

And the best one is that it's free medicine and fun to use......

It will help us not to get the stomachache, mental stress..etc...Don't expect like it should cure when are suffering with stomachache or cancer  :-) ...

Don't laugh when you met with an accident.... ;-)

    Don't shoot me for this....

I don't think this is meant literally towards a sickness of the body but maybe pertaining to the heart and soul!

I don't really think this is said in the above context...

May be it refers to the mental peace smile
because smiling has always been much easier than to explain why you are sad!
