Organic or naturally processed (unrefined) coconut oil has many health properties, similar to olive oil, and perhaps better. It helps prevent high blood pressure and heart disease. It helps balance blood sugar, reducing the risk of hypoglycemia and diabetes. It also helps prevent cancer.
The best way to use it is raw or cooked at a relatively low temperature. It also makes an excellent skin moisturizer.
As well as SidKemp says, it is also an omega essential fatty acid. Helpful for just about any illness you may have. If taken orally, is helpful for skin, hair, lowers blood pressure, prevents arthritis, reduces the risk of blood clots, reduces bad cholesterol, eczema, psoriasis, and for normal function of the brain. Since our brains are made up of 60% fat is helpful with depression, ADHD, learning, and recall of information. Is required for producing, hormones, not just estrogen, but cortisol as well, so is helpful with unbalanced hormones, and pain. Also has been found to be helpful in weight loss. The reason? We binge on certain foods because this nutrient is missing from our over processed food supply, we binge on hydrogenated oils, our body cannot utilize it, so it stores it in our arteries, or on our thighs. By giving the body what it needs, you won't crave, or binge on chips and so fourth. It is very good, and can be substituted for any hydrogenated oil you are presently using. Other good fats for cooking include, olive oil, butter, and walnut oil. Essential fatty acids are also present in nuts and seeds, whole grains, avocadas, just to mention a few.
