How do you define pettiness?
Beyond just the dictionary definition, what are some of the major signs/causes/outcomes of pettiness you see in your life and those around you?
Pettiness literary suggests being small, minor, secondary at rank, mean or marked by narrowness..but in fact, the word is very vast in meaning..it relates to the negative thoughts & lack of sprituality, and the way of looking things in an incomplete sense that is wrong ! For example: everything has two aspects but out of pettiness one can see the darker side of it only, where as the real image comes after combining all the two sides and that may be more brighter and different of the first image!
I agree with Shara63...except I will add mean spirited to the list. There are those who deliberately twist the facts around, or, they may understand what you mean but because you didn't say it exactly or as clearly as it could have been said, they will turn it around and make a big deal about it. They will blow it up all out of proportion.
A most recent exampleof this is in the presidential campaign advertisments. Both sides are guilty of this. They take something that they know is not what you ment to say, but they latch on to that small gaff and blow it up to be something that is completely unintended.
