Do you think near death experiences (NDEs)prove that there is life after death?
Maybe NDEs and other spiritual transformational experiences can help all of us find better ways to live in this world today.
They're one piece of evidence in the form of testimony, but they alone can't prove it. It's possible (some will argue factual) that the dying brain creates delusions that are similar from individual to individual. That said, the testimony of those who have experienced it is powerful. A.J. Ayer, the famous philosopher of logical positivism and a confirmed atheist most of his life, is among them. He had a near death experience and upon recovery remarked he was going to have to rethink his entire outlook on the world.
Interesting. Thanks for this information. Are you aware of Dr. Eben Alexander's book, Proof of Heaven? He was in a coma for 7 days with his brain shut down and still experienced vivid afterlife experiences.
I'm reading that now. It's a great book.
And he's a neurosurgeon. It's well worth the read!
Regarding NDEs, you may want to look at Dr. James E. Whinnery's work with (accidentally) inducing NDEs in Naval pilots at the Naval Air Warfare Center.
I think embracing transformational experiences could lead to better ways to live in the world. However, I do think the point is making this life better and not worrying about what happens after we die.
I am a Christian but am not a believer in the NDE phenomenon. I believe they are generated by chemicals in the brain that surge when the body is near death. That is not to say I don't believe in heaven, I do, but I don't think we get a glimpse of it when we near death--only once we have passed.
I have no personal knowledge of NDE's and therefore cannot say with any certainty that they're proof of an existence after physical death. For some NDE's seem to be significant and are proof of a post mortem world in which consciousness survives and everything is in harmony. This could be nothing more than chemical changes within the brain giving a subjective dream like lucidity unique to the person experiencing it - something akin to hallucinatory drug use?
If experiences like this help people achieve more in this life then great!
But scientific evidence has not yet been put forward as concrete proof of this virtual afterlife. Perhaps it should stay this way!! Proof comes only when we die but then we can't communicate this to any other living person!! Or can we??
Good reasoning. But why does Dr. Eben Alexander say he has proof of heaven? Perhaps if consciousness is eternal and we are all one with The Source, then maybe we can begin to change our thinking about how make a better life for all of in this world.
I have never had a NDE. my father had one during the vietnam war in which his dead mother appeared to him when he was drowning in the ocean and saved his life. I have never experienced a NDE But I have had many out of body experiences. They are incredibly humbling. I learned to induce them many years ago after experiencing them uncontrollably as a child. Out of body experiences are more real than waking life, but I will say this, they can be very dangerous, as well.
I'm not sure if this was a NDE but after a severe infection after surgery they were trying to get my temp down.it was 105 and everyone is prodding and bright lights I said I was ready to leave.
I don't recall anything after they poured ice on me
I felt nothing, saw nothing, and heard nothing.
I'm not sure if my brain cells died. I'm not urge what it was
I don't remember waking up either.
But there are some good books on NDE
The last thing I said was I'm coming.

Have you ever had a life-threatening or near-death experience?

Many speak of near death experiences as proof of God or proof of life after death. A new British study demonstrates that near death experiences are the function of brain activity.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-23672150What do you think?

Please explain near death experiences.I've been reading about them, and have found this out: 1) most of them are positive, where they meet an all-loving Being (God), and loved ones who have passed on before. 2) while suicides may have a similar experience, they risk ending up in a place of...

There is much documentative evidence of positive near death experiences. These people have seen heaven and some heaven-like place. They maintained that they have encountered spiritual figures such as Christ, Buddha, and other City of Light. Many of these people did not...
