Ice pack it as often as possible until swelling stays down, then soak it in warm water. Stay off it for a few days if possible. Ibuprofen will also help reduce inflammation and lighten the pain. I tore ligaments in my ankles years ago and that was what they told me to do.
I agree that ice at first is especially good. After swelling reduces and heat is began, some doctors advise some massage by a professional who may also use some tea tree oil. All of this helped my own case of ligament damage. Hope u are well, Diana.
