Are you also one of those introverts or sensitive spirits that procrastinate a thousand times before saying or doing a thing? And when being in the spotlight or center of attention, you start to shiver and the palm of your hand immediately starts sweating. Your heart starts beating faster. Relax, it’s just your body’s natural response to stress. This response could be just due to minor circumstances such as your first day at college, meeting your partner’s family, or giving a presentation in front of your batchmates. Everyone has different triggers and their identification is the key factor in coping and quieting your anxiety attacks from taking over.
Reason for anxiety:
Some people called introverts usually talk a lot in their minds and rarely interact with people. Therefore a crowded place or focus of people can make them feel uneasy. The lineage that gets worried easily is the one with the purest heart and they can’t bear any injustice prevailing in their surroundings. Just a stranger getting hurt in front of their eyes can make them sob.
How to respond to anxiety:
There are different possibilities to live a peaceful, contented life without trepidation and pressure.
The 4-7-8 technique is also known to help anxiety. Breathe in for 4 counts and breathe out for 4 counts for 5 minutes total. By evening out your breath, you’ll slow your heart rate which helps calm you down.
Aromatherapy is thought to help activate certain receptors in your brain, potentially easing anxiety. Whether they’re in oil form, incense, or a candle, scents like lavender, chamomile, and sandalwood can be very soothing.
Go for a walk or do 15 minutes of yoga. Sometimes, the best way to stop anxious thoughts is to walk away from the situation. Taking some time to focus on your body and not your mind may help relieve your anxiety.
Write down your thoughts. Writing down what’s making you anxious gets it out of your head and can make it less daunting.
Negative thoughts can take root in your mind and distort the severity of the situation. One way is to challenge your fears, ask if they’re true, and see where you can take back control.
In cases severe than just feeling nervous for a short while, you may need to see a therapist. The triggers for this case may include financial or work-related issues, traumas, phobias(agoraphobia or claustrophobia), or bad eating habits as excess intake of alcohol, caffeine, or smoking etc.
Remedies to these conditions may include CBT- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, meditation, intake of supplements such as lemon balm, omega-3 fatty acids, green tea, etc or a change of diet, exercising for a healthy mind and body. However, consulting a doctor for medication can also help recover to a healthy lifestyle.
