Thank you, Sir, for initiating this discussion about my article on loneliness. I understand it is pervasive across global communities.
In the 1990's when I was doing some professional training, I drove with a Chinese colleague through the Canadian city where I lived and we passed through the Chinatown. He pointed out a newly
-erected high rise apartment building designated for aging Chinese couples.
He commented that such a habitation would not have existed within the Chinese community even five years earlier but that even in China "retirement homes" were popping up. Traditionally, older Chinese lived with their oldest son's family but he said a lot of sons' wives were rebellng against this burden and, thus, the "nursing home" business had sprung up.
I would imagine there is more loneliness among families in China as a result.
Do you have any observations from your own cultural perspective?
I agree with you that loneliness is a dangerous issue. But you limited it to old age in your above comment, Sir. I do not restrict it. It is a wider issue covering all generations and all ages and beyond boundaries. It is a health-related issue that needs to be tackled and addressed by all concerned. Some NGOs and local governments are doing their share of the work. But it is you and me that should understand the sensitivity of it- our families, siblings, children, friends, and the societies are responsible for it.
Agreed. A major work for sure but work that will certainly bring many of us out of our own lonely zones and refresh those social interfaces we each have agency over.
Exactly. It is a nice journey. Thanks for your perceptions.
I completely agree. Cynthia's article sheds light on a critical issue and provides practical steps to tackle loneliness. It's a great resource for anyone feeling disconnected.
Yes, it is of great source not only for disconnected but also for those having disconnected people among their families or contacts.
Thanks for the kind comments, Justine34. Is there a resource(s) you can think of that I could have highlighted in the article that would have resonated with lonely older adults? Children?

I believe Hubpages needs to let the writer know who is moderating their article. I believe we should have a right to know and we should have a link to them so we can fully understand what they want us to change. I get an article moderated and I make appropriate changes. However, my article is still...

The books Burke's Peerage & Baronetage and Burke's Landed Gentry have, for 175 years, recorded the genealogies of the UK and Ireland's titled and landed families. Often referred to as 'the aristocracy bible', these are without comparison as a genealogical reference to the influential figures...

I answered a question a few minutes ago and it got me to thinking about this. Do you write for you or do you write to make money. Below is a list of some of the more popular issues that you can write on that will make you money. And you can drill down in these niches and find some real gem niches....

Why do people fear being alone?Loneliness can't be the sole answer, because there are many people who are surrounded by family, friends and loved ones and still feel lonely and unfulfilled. Why do many avoid being alone at all costs - even by drowning out the silence with noise when they are...

Will the definition of family include non-related people who care and respect each other? Will families remain small as the improvements in contraceptive technologies and an increase in social networks is making large families a virtual dinosaur and unnecessary? What is YOUR opinion on...

I've had links to my own related hubs snipped on several occasions (mostly blatant lists at the end of a hub), but some links have been left in place after several snips. So is it acceptable to include a link to a hub which may be very relevant to the specific content in a section of a hub, if it...
