Pilot For A Day - An Adventurous and Romantic Gift For Him on Valentine's Day
If you are thinking of the perfectly romantic gift to surprise him, this is it! Many men have daydreamt about flying an aeroplane up in the sky, and if he can take you, the very special woman with him, it would be a perfectly romantic memory for both of you.
Many people I have known spent at least one time in their life while growing up daydreaming about becoming a pilot. While that dream didn’t become a career for many of us, there are still ways to experience the thrills of flying freely up in the sky. For people with daring heart, there are several niche companies out there that offer programs for you to be a pilot for one day.
Being a pilot for one day is certainly an unforgettable, exciting, eye-opening and thrilling experience for many, especially for men! In fact, more and more women have become so courageous and brave. They can have the same passion to learn how to fly and experience flying a plane, even if it is for one day. You don’t need to be a professional pilot or take many hours of lesson to fly for one day. You can do all that in just one day! With this program, everyone can be a pilot, and everyone can fly!
Are you worried about the safety in this program, don’t worry, this experience is governed under the DCA (Department of Civil Aviation) rules and regulation and it will be conducted by highly trained pilots.
How does it work ?
On that day, you (and your partner) will be greeted by a friendly pilot or captain. He will bring you to the hangar area where the airplane is parked. If you're lucky, you will also get a close up look at other private planes, jets and even helicopters.
Before you hop on to your airplane, the pilot will provide you with a pre-flight briefing session. During the briefing session you and your partner may be part of a group, but for the flying session it will be just you and your pilot. You will learn some basic pre-flight inspection of your aircraft. This on-site briefing includes checking the condition of the plane such as oil, engine and other safety related parts to ensure that the airplane is fit to fly. The briefing takes about 20-30 minutes time, but if anyone in the group has more questions to ask or require further explanation, then the briefing session may take a longer time.
After the briefing and inspection, you will be taken to the airplane and board the airplane together with the captain. Yes, you are going to take-off and experience how it feels like to be a pilot! Sitting beside the captain, you will observe and listen to the captain’s explanation as the captain taxis the plane from the hangar to the take-off point. This will take about 5 minutes.
Then, you will proceed to take-off, which means the plane will be taxi-ing on the runway and prepare to take off. You will sit beside the pilot and personally observe how a pilot controls a plane to take-off. Since the same runway, Subang Skypark is used together with other commercial aircrafts (such as FireFly), priority to fly will be given to them. Therefore, depending on the traffic and flight schedule on that day, you may have to wait for the runway clearance given by the air control tower prior to take-off. When the time has finally come, it will be most probably one of the most fascinating and thrilling experiences in this flight operation.

When you are up in the air, the pilot will try to stay as long as 20 minutes. However, there may be cases where you may have to stay longer in the air due to high traffic of other commercial aircrafts at the Subang Airport. It is rarely shorter than 20 minutes, unless wind conditions have suddenly turned unfavourable. This is all subject to airport tower control instructions of which the pilot has to abide to.
Will you get the chance to drive the airplane yourself ? Yes, certainly. In fact this is the best part of this flying experience. You will be given a chance to help maneuver the plane in the 'safe zone' - an aviation term used for indicating that the plane has stabilized and is up in the air. Depending on how confident you are, the pilot will allow participants to take over the controls 80% of the time. He will only be doing the airplane taking-off and landing airplane on the runway.
When it is time to land, similar to take-off, we will have to wait for runway clearance from the airport control tower. Once the aircraft is landed, the airplane will be taxi-ed back to the hangar area.
After you get off from the airplane, there will be a short de-brief, questions and answer session. You can express your opinion and ask any questions to the pilot if you still have something lingering in your mind.
So, the entire program will take about 1 hour. If air traffic is busy, it may take up to 1.5 hours.
This flying experience may be a beginning of a lifelong passion or hobby. It may also be the chance for you to fulfill the dreams of your loved one! Don’t miss this great opportunity to help him or her realize their dreams to fly, a thrilling experience that he/she will remember for his/her life!
High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Can the partner follow ?
One friend/partner is allowed to accompany the participant on the day up to the hangar (airplane parking area) but not to fly. If the partner wishes to fly together, you can consider another program, City Sky Tour for Two. In this program, you can take your partner flying up to the sky and have a panoramic and scenic tour over Kuala Lumpur city. This fantastic trip will take 1 hour, and you will fly through the heart of the city, a perspective that most people rarely see. Flying at 1000 to 1500 feet, you will view the capital’s iconic landmarks such as the famous KL Tower, and the Petronas Twin Towers (KLCC). The view is breathtaking. It is certainly a perfect gift for anniversary, Valentine's Day, birthdays, or even a proposal in the sky !
