Do any of you get the "Bah! Humbug" syndrome at Christmas time due to the commercialism?
No, I just go with the flow and enjoy everything about the Season. It's all beautiful to me. I don't think Jesus would mind as long as we keep the true meaning close to our hearts.
no...i insulate myself against that....i refuse to let the commerialism be the focus of how my family and i celebrate Christmas. because it is about so much more than rushing to the store on Black Friday or Wednesday or cyber Monday...keeping focused on the joy and the opportunity to give thanks once again for so many blessings, be they ever so humble or not.
taking time to share with others that are unknown to us is also another way to deflect that which would cause us to 'bah humbug' if we allowed it.
to soak in the 'once in a lifetiemes' that happen is another way to refcocus. My grandbaby is enjoying Christmas this year...the magic and the wonder...Santa and the Polar Express and all of it...the wonder and joy....shines on his face and in his eyes.
As someone who was raised with neither the religious nor secular version of the holiday, nope.... I'm free to watch everyone else work themselves into a tizzy.
ya lol i seen Christmas stuff out before Halloween stuff was out and they have been playing Christmas music since the beginning of November.... and now it politically incorrect the say Merry Christmas it has to be happy holiday because of minorities in Canada...... i say its a minority of Canada so everyone else can shove it because it is MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! o and to add they dont want to stores to decorate the windows any more like wtf its not Christmas with out checking out the interesting painting pplz come up with next they will ban Christmas lights on your house.....
I really do love Christmas time, although I have to say I'm not a fan of shopping around Christmas. Not to be confused with I don't like buying gifts (I love seeing the faces of my family members when they open their pressies). I just don't like the long queues, the traffic jams, the 'item sold out before Christmas' scenario.
Note to self - - I will organise myself better next year.
Before I retired I used to hate the Christmas do, when people who never said a word to each other throughout the year started wishiing each other well, as if they were the best of friends, all that sort of hypocrisy gives me the bah humbug syndrome.
Though I was raised celebrating both religious and secular versions of Christmas, I am grately relaxed this year as I have chosen to totally unplug from the madness and celebrate in my own way---service and fellowship.
No doubt. I stay away from malls and have a strict budget for family. The economy is not for me to repair, the politicians need to stop dragging butt. Advertising makes me sick and it is such a waste of time. I love my DVR just for the fact I can fast forward through all that nonsense.
I do. But there's also warmth of community spirit if you can get past the commercialism. Not that I do it every year, but here are some of my ways to get past it.

Nah just kidding. I just wanted to take time during my lunch break to wish you all a very merry christmas, or a happy holiday if you're not into that holiday.

What would you change about the Christmas holiday if you could?

Do you prefer to dine out or eat at home on Christmas Day?I had been dining at home on Christmas Day for years. Th last time I dine out on Christmas Day was 20 years go. Meals are expensive and so are parking fees. Exorbitant fees. Dining at home maybe be boring but comfy. What do you think?

With all the de-emphasizing of the reason for the season, what do you call a christmas with no celebration or memorial of Jesus Christ?

I can't say I've heard of Christmas till I arrived in NZ 10 years ago. New Years Day was the big celebration and still is for me. Having said that, today, every christmas we generally do the same routine - pull out the christmas tree, hide those presents and fire up the ovens! How do you celebrate...
