If we change the day we celebrate a holiday just to make it fall on a weekend and not on a...
Sunday...aren't we teaching our children that tradition means nothing?
I don't think so. It'd be a nightmare to keep small kids away from the candy on a Sunday night, to get them to bed at a reasonable time, and then get them up early for school the next day.
It's much more convenient for families to celebrate it on a Saturday, and I don't think kids notice.
Besides, isn't it the things we do (carving pumpkins, costumes, trick-or-treating, etc), that make the tradition special, rather than the exact day we celebrate it on?
I think quite the opposite. If the holiday is preserved, I think it demonstrates that the event matters. The date on the calendar is arbitrary.
Holidays should remain where they are no matter what day they fall on. Even if it interrupts a persons holiday plans it should not be changed. Could you imagine if they decided that the 4th of July should be celebrated on July 6th because it hits on a weekend instead? That would confuse the hell out of kids because they are taught that the 4th is a Holiday not the 6th!

Please don't tell me it is for the children's sake. Let me emphasize... Christians not others, but Christians.

Do you celebrate May Day - May 1?Do you celebrate this often overlooked holiday? Are there May queen dresses to be fitted, MayDay baskets to be groomed, and dinners to be served? What other type of holiday festivities does your family or culture equate with the first day of May?

I would like to hear your ideas in regards to changing the name of the "Christmas" season to something more appropriate so as to lose the concept of gaining converts and power in the name of Jesus.Perhaps, we should go back to the name, "Yule"
