   You've answered part of the question - spend some quality time together! Often just a quick drop by, and bringing a cake as a present for the two of you to share over coffee, will mean a great deal. Having worked for an aged-care and disability service provider I can vouch that companionship rates highly.

   Digital photo frames are a nice gift. They are connected to the internet and you can regularly send photos of yourself to that person. It can help that person to feel less lonely. But visiting lonely people that you care about is still the best.

   Spending time with them and taking them somewhere interesting and appropriate is a really good gift for old people. At that point in time, most of them don't want stuff. They just want company, love, affection.

   Tell them you are taking them out for the day or if they cannot last a full day then for a few hours.  Ask them where they need to go and where they would like to go for lunch.  The hardest thing getting older is being more housebound so getting out is a treat and having a ride to the pharmacy or grocery store, etc

   Spending quality time with old people and talking to them is the best gift as mentioned above.Taking them out for a short holiday would be a treat for them. However,the second best gift would be electronic gadgets which would make their day to day lives easier.Also,if he/she is fond of reading,gifting books of their choice would be a good idea.

In fact,  a lonely  aged person eagerly looks forward for someone who will give some quality time spending together and sharing  some enjoyable incidences. We can also suggest  for some new favorite ideas which can keep them engaged for hours to overcome loneliness. If your idea clicks, it will be a great gift.

   Photographs and other memorabilia are always wonderful. One idea that I really love (it will be popping up in one of my gift idea hubs!) is to go to a self-publishing website that allows people to create projects for private use and put together a book of pictures, scanned documents and other family history (or any other topic they might love), add in captions and stories and have it "published". You can order just one of these and it will come hard-backed and professional just like a book in a bookstore but fully customized. These are treasured!
