What Are Some Inexpensive Gift Ideas?

What Are Some Inexpensive Gift Ideas? What are some inexpensive gift ideas for all occasions and holidays: Birthdays, Christmas or any gift giving time?

How about money? You can give money in many ways, apart from just inside the obligatory money envelope. It's cheap, it doesn't cost you much in wrapping or postage and it's always appreciated. Everyone can use it in the way they like best, no queues to return, no wrong sizes or colours. You can also use your sense of creativity and humour in giving it. For instance, another word for money is "dough". Could you give it inside a doughnut? (Make sure you give them a clue so they don't throw the fattening item on the fire to remove temptation before extracting the real "dough"!

Alternatively, you could give a gift basket. That can be tailored very nicely to the recipient's needs at low cost. A little basket (sometimes you can source those for free), with tissue paper and a few of their favourite items included.

DreamerMeg's first idea is similar to Chinese lucky money in a red envelop.  That's what my mom would give out to my children during holidays and their birthdays because it is the easiest way to give gift.  Of course my kids then can use the money to buy whatever they like.  It is very practical.  However, it is too predicable and doesn't give the excitement or surprise.
DreamerMeg's gift basket is a great idea.  There are a lot of good ideas on making fun and interesting gift baskets if you search on internet.  It is a lot cheaper if make it your own.
You can give custom screen print T-Shirts with designs they like, or Iron-on T Shirts which I did for my daughter's friends with the cost less than $5 each.  Of course, I had to put in some time to buy the supplies and look for the right designs.  But her friends loved them.

There are many ways to find inexpensive gifts for all members of the family.  Garage sales and consignment shops are great ways to find new items for a fraction of the cost of the same item in a retail shop.  Also, shopping during the year during sales or after season times will allow you to find things very cheap that are brand new.  Discount stores or outlet stores like Bealls Outlet, Ross Dress for Less, TJ Maxx, etc can provide new items for less because they sell close out or overstock items.

A good idea is to use what you are good at to create gifts.  If you love to take pictures, offer to take family portraits on location for a friend, your sister or brother, your parents, then give them a copy of the pics edited on CD to do with as they wish.  If you are a cook, bake cookies or banana nut loaves for members of your family and friends.  Who doesn't like something home cooked.  For children, there are so many books, toys, etc that are $10 and under.

Get creative.  It's all about having fun.
