Do you think Columbus Day should be a holiday in the US?

Today is Columbus Day in the USA. Every year I wonder what exactly we are celebrating that deserves a holiday and why in the world Columbus it the person it it named for. What do you think? Are there any historians that can lend some input?

All I know is that I went over to the Post Office and the door was locked. I had no idea it was Columbus Day. I guess I should pay more attention to what days the government has off. But then, it seems like it's every day,

I think it's a rather pointless holiday. We have only two federal holidays named after people,  Christopher Columbus and Martin Luther King. I don't know of any special customs that people have for Columbus Day. I've heard it is a big event in the Italian American community, which is fine, but I consider Columbus to be the most overrated historical figure in human history, so I don't think he deserves a holiday.
