    Doing the dishes for the hostess, I'm sure she'll see that as doing her a favour.

    I was thinking more along the lines of a gift to bring to a party.

      I know, but realistically, without people, there could not be a party. Perhaps a gift, after the party, would be more in order? A nice card or thank you note with a gift certificate? DHL You have a good time!

      So what was stopping you saying gift, in other parts favour is usually used to mean going out of one's way to do a service for someone.

    Bringing a bottle of wine, helping clear up.... all legitimate party favors at civilized parties.
