I would do it if the gift were clothing, certain jewelry, or furniture. These things are very personal and adults buy these things for themsleves. When adults buy each other clothing, they almost never get it exactly right for the other person. Gifts are supposed to be thoughtful, but not invasive.

I probably wouldn't take it back unless it was clothing and I needed to get a different size in order to wear it at all. I've always been afraid to hurt people's feelings and sometimes I take that too far. Sometimes it is okay to return a gift but, for me, I would probably smile, say 'thank you so much', and just put it away. smile

No, I couldn't take something back if it would cause hurt feeling. The feelings of a loved one are more important than the material item.

My husband bought me the most gosh awful plaid pants one year. I was lucky that they didn't fit, so when I exchanged them I was able to get a jacket in the same plaid which was actually stylish at the time.

But had the pants fit, I would have worn them anyway (at home!) he was so proud of that gift so in this case his feelings would have been much more important than having pants I liked.

No because just think he will buy you more gifts that you will have a better chance of getting a better gift. It cause to much tension to hurt his feeling and take it back.
