Would Valentines Day be as popular a holiday if...
the traditional gift was oysters instead of chocolates (since both are considered aphrodisiacs)?
Chocolates seem to trigger sensuality but oysters trigger sex hormones. So I guess it depends what you, her, or both of you desire most.
I don't think it's the gifts that make Valentine's Day special as much as it is the "attention" and "effort" made by (men) to shower their women romantically. The roses, balloons, candy, jewelry, cards, dinner reservations, or night out on the town are designed to (celebrate the women) in men's lives. It's all part of the "fairytale" princess image. Most guys only get a card and possibly sex.
Valentine's Day is like a Wedding Day - They're for/about women! Not many men anxiously count down the days until they arrive.
You included "candy" in your list of what the day is made of. She is is asking suppose, or should, they give oysters instead of candy.
I included candy as being (just another gift). It's about whatever (she) likes! As I stated it's really not about the gifts as much as it is about (men) making women feel "special" for a day by bending over backwards to do "romantic gestures".
