What are THE TEN MAIN THINGS you would say to your teenage/young adult self regarding your

relationship with your parents now that you are older, especially during the holiday season?

As a teenager I naturally discounted the things my parents tried to tell me. Like many teens, I believed they were out of touch with reality and just wanted to hold me back, also that I was a lot smarter than they were at my age.
Looking back from later years, I began to see that they may have had a few valid points, for instance, marriage at eighteen was not such a good idea. I wished I could turn back time and listen to what they told me.
    1. Save money so that I could go away to college. They were not financially able to send all three of us kids to school and I was youngest.
    2. Spend more time on my studies than I did on the phone.
    3. Spend less money on clothes that were "cool" and put my earnings into savings.
    4. Don't be in such a hurry to grow up, wishing my life away hoping for the weekend or to be old enough to stay out later.
    5. Study harder to qualify for a scholarship to help me afford college.
    6. Choose my friend wisely. They always told me that birds of a feather flock together.
    7. Try out for more activities in school rather than remaining in the background unnoticed.
    8. Learn to disagree without creating an argument or getting angry.
    9. Value the experience of my parents who were old enough to have been through what I was facing as a teen.
    10. Learn to appreciate the fact that I had a good life as a child, had all the things I needed (not wanted) to get by and that my parents loved me.
