How do you honor your mother?

The command to "Honor your mother" isn't a suggestion, and nobody is exempt.  I understand that not all mothers may not be or have been wonderful, but her character or effectiveness as a parent is not the issue, according to God's Word.  God will bless our homes when we respect our mothers with words, attitudes, and actions.  This may be difficult to understand for many who have not had the ideal mother in this life.  What are some of the ways you have honored your mother?  Thank you for sharing.

I think wether you have a good relationship with your mother or a bad relationship honoring her can be done. If you are true to yourself and honest with your mom when it concerns issues in the relationship, even if it's toxic and you need to step away for awhile, then you are honoring the both of you.

Hi Jaimi,  Wow, what a fantastic answer here and great insight you have provided!  I think we can love her unconditionally, forgive her compassionately, remember her gratefully and treat her kindly.

Hi Faith, my mother abandoned me and my twin sister when we were around 2 years of age.  She took off to NYC and could not deal.  Our father took us to his parents up the street and handed us over to them.  He then left for NYC...he and our mom separated.
    She was gorgeous.  Long story.
After my sis and I married and had two children, she wrote our mom a letter and asked her, "would you like to meet your grandchildren?"  She flew to Binghamton from NYC and stayed with my sis for a few days.  I visited, and she met her grandchildren.  She came a couple more times, and she stayed in touch.
Because she was a chain smoker, she developed cancer of the larynx and she died in her early fifties.  But she left this earth knowing she was loved and forgiven.  My sis and I have never regretted that we honored our mother with no resentment.  This is the key to peace.  To honor and forgive...everyone.

Dearest Sparklea, you truly know how to honor you mother, dear heart.  What a special person you are, but I already knew that and read your wonderful hub about your mother. You are one of the wisest women I know of and I am blessed to call you friend

Hi Faith, I surmised you had read the hub, but I love answering your questions and shortened it a lot.  Mother's Day is a very rough time for me.  You know why.  God bless and thank you for your lovely note.
