If I Stayed

Updated on July 16, 2012

If I stayed

I wonder

Would we fall in love all over again

Would we ever make it back

To the place

Where we first fell in love

Before I lost you somehow

And perhaps lost myself a little too

For reasons I still can't grasp

I blame myself mostly

But perhaps this is as silly

As thinking I can control

When the wind changes directions

So I could stay and hope

That we will find our way back

To that most perfect kind of happiness

But I was never very good at hoping

And you were never very good

At giving me reasons to

You are one of my favorite poets. Your way of putting emotions to verse is amazing. Reading it always has a profound effect on me.

eHealer- Thanks so much! I haven't really considered a book of poems but wouldn't rule it out:)

billybuc- I'm so glad your story had a happy ending! The word "tormenting" is definitely a good way to describe these types of situations!

Bev and I had to break up four times before we came to the realization that we really did want to stay together forever. Great job of capturing the tormenting questions that I had to ask myself several years ago.

Koshaugh, very thoughtful and beautiful piece. Have you ever considered a book of poems? This is really good. Keep 'em coming. Voted up.
