Love is the Happiness that Results From Giving Your Heart Away

Updated on March 29, 2010

The Moment When All is Yes

The Kiss, F. Hayez
The Kiss, F. Hayez

Love

Love is more than a feeling,

More than a promise

Love is working all day

With the memory of a smile

Keeping your feet off the ground

It’s being the best you can be

Because the one you love deserves no less

It’s choosing to risk everything you have:

Your pride, your reputation, the fate of your heart

It’s borrowing heaven and an angel’s touch

In a glimpse of the eyes and the clasp of a hand

It’s looking into the other’s soul

And finding your home

A warm retreat when the cold of winter is in your heart

It’s wanting something enough to wait for it and

Work for it and fan every tiny flame until it burns warm & bright

Love knows who it wants and cherishes what it knows about them

It goes beyond and in spite of words

Endures the irritations and soothes the hurts

It’s worth the trouble

Worth the wait

Worth the worry

Love is the happiness that results from giving your heart away

Seeking nothing in return

It looks beyond the faults

And sees the good and the beautiful,

And by the act of loving, creates much of what it loves

Love is the magical feeling you get

When the extraordinary meets the ordinary

Love is a whisper that drowns the wind

The moment when all is yes

Ha ha, yes and maybe that's how we get some of those unusual words we use. Thank you for noticing that line. If we knew the awesome power of love to create a world we would like to live in, maybe we would risk it more.

Thanks again for the visit and comment. =:)

"Love is the happiness that results from giving your heart away seeking nothing in turn". Absolutely true! ..and a double happiness if it would have been (in Duchess OBlunt's words)- "graciously received". Thank you, Winsome! Thank you Duchess!

Thank you and I agree Polly. While the saying is true "better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all", when it is returned.....such beautiful fireworks. =:)

Winsome – This is truly a beautiful poem. You get right to the heart of the matter. You captivate the essence of what love really is. My mind was full of visuals and my heart was touched by the graciousness of each and every line.

The ending simply blows me away,...

“And by the act of loving, creates much of what it loves. Love is the magical feeling you get. When the extraordinary meets the ordinary; love is a whisper that drowns the wind. The moment when all is yes”

OMG! brings tears to my eyes. Great Job!

Thank you MOW, it's my pleasure. Seeking nothing yet gaining everything is the most difficult of paradoxes.

You are so kind Mekenzie. You are right about the desire and motivation. The challenge is to still have those you love see your heart through the "thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to." Blessings
