Poem - What We Could Have Been

Updated on March 12, 2017

I have been writing intermittently for over 10 years. And I continue to write poems, stories, etc., because it is always fun to write.

What We Could Have Been

She was the best dream,
That I had never seen,
Such a wonderful dream,
Oh what we could have been

Every story has the moral,
Treasure is always hidden under,
In a place so full of nothing,
I found my own moment of wonder

When the greatest luck comes,
How can you believe it?
If you finally reach paradise,
How do you know that this is it?

I loved to watch you walk,
And see everything come alive,
The whole place would light up,
And even the ground could just fly

Your oyster eyes hid pearls,
And to their beauty I was blind,
Everyday I wake up and think,
Why is her face still on my mind?

I wish you could have understood,
It was all just a misunderstanding,
I already knew you were the one,
I was just simply procrastinating

I wish I was better with words,
And I wish I had better words,
Why didn't we leave it all behind,
And just fly away like the birds?

You had that something special,
Something that only very few get,
Your love changed me so you are,
The only one that I will never forget

I wish for you only great things,
Sweet days of music and ice creams,
One day you will happily realize,
I am that guy from your best dreams

I hope you are still beautiful,
And may you always remain that way,
I love you, you know where I'll be,
I'll keep an eye out for you everyday.

I can feel the regret, Master Green. I believe it's all for the best.

I can relate to this poem Mastergreen, from many years ago I admit, but the memories occasionally resurface. I admit I am quite a procrastinator at times and there have been missed opportunities. Good poem.

Strong feelings here bro. mastergreen. I feel you. Yes, sometimes "we don't know how good the water was until the well runs dry." Good poetry expressing about a love, once upon a time. However, keep on moving and learn from made mistakes. Thanks for sharing from the depths of your heart.

So great mastergreen. I feel these words tremendously. I think everyone gets too caught up in the grind of life, they forget that love is the most important thing. Procrastination; that is the best word for it for sure. Procrastinating on love is what we do today. If only we had the courage not to, and recognize we should throw all the rest away if it is causing us to lose love.
