The Arrival Of Middle Age~

The clock is ticking

I hate delays

I’m seldom late but

Hush, I have to rush

In pursuit of the day.

What’s with the time

And to be always on the dot

Can I not stay still and chill

Think not of the arrival of time

Take it easy, do as I pleased?

But the clock is ticking

I hear the bustle and the sound

I say sky is the limit

But my days are limited

So, I run in a flash!

The loss of youth

Vanity and sanity at times

‘Though part of growing old

I kid you not is quite sad

‘Though not that bad.

Gazing upon the golden hues and the rainbow of life.
Gazing upon the golden hues and the rainbow of life. | Source

So, while I gaze upon the rainbow

Of life that brightens my heart

Why not embrace the flaw and glow

End not in a lonesome misery

Walk along for the life so full of joy.

With the dwindling days

Of undesirable yet appearing age

Wrinkles make their way

Behind the shadow of solitude

Lie fond memories of my youth.

There in the sky my dream inscribed

Suspended between time and space

Behind the clouds that cloak my face

Of things past and the ultimate fate

Here comes time…tick, tock, tick, tock!

I’ll never know the purpose

Would you? Can you tell?

And when I finished my journey

What could be the reason or

Would I ever reach the end?

My daughter (KC) baked this beautiful and yummy carrot cake!

Here comes the arrival of middle age

Tongue-in-cheek, do I celebrate?

And when I blow the candles on my cake

What do I wish? Think, not in a haste

For I am no longer in a rat race.

But wait, this is middle age

Am I getting near to the place I call home?

I’ll never know but time will tell

Grab a moment or let it pass

Try to keep up with the pace.

Unblemished mind is all I wish

To reflect on the things I know

To remember the good times of days gone by

And look ahead for brighter days

Embracing hope thy will be done.

The proverbial march of time is here

But only God can tell if it is the end

And in his time I will come to know

Here comes the arrival of middle age

Fret not…tick, tock, tick, tock!

I needed this so much today! I recently hit 42, and to be honest, not really liking the well earned wrinkles and gray hairs. I have spent many days inside my head wishing to go back, while on the outside living in auto-pilot...You have inspired me to look ahead without fear of my lost youth, that now exists in my beautiful daughters(3), Thank you!

Hi CrisPs... middle age is only a state of mind and a number it is what is found in the heart that truly counts. Fear not it only gets better.

A great poem and yes one that makes us stop and think... care not about yesterday it has passed and tomorrow is still to come. Live in the moment of the day we find ourselves in and it is what is important.

Who would go back to youth? Time is a conjurer - it ticks faster for some than others. In a couple of decades of middle-age you can witness a generation born and grow to adulthood and start the next generation. Young people seem to catch up, and old-age moves further into the distance. You see changes in yourself but you don't change within. And if we step off the highway, we see that it's not the ticking that hurries us along... but the traffic.

      Great poem.

Embracing hope thy will be done

This is pretty much my view lately, Crissp. I have seen lots of days gone by, learned much, am much wiser for the wear, but still look for more blessings to come before I'm done. Thank you for the inspiration!

The question is "What is middle age?" If a person dies at 40, then middle age was somewhere between 14 to 27. If a person lives to 100, then middle age is close to 35 to 65. It all depends on the final tally! So, I'm planning on living until 200, so I have yet to leave my youth behind! Age is only a matter of mind. If anything, it hinders the experiences one enjoys as the "respectability" of age disallows certain types of freedom ... supposedly. I say, "Forget the number of years you've been around and enjoy!" Good poem!

Beautiful my friend. When I reached middle age all my three children had been paid for through college. Liberation! I had offers to travel the world and teach and be free. I chose to have another child with my new wife of 10 years. I am middle aged and so alive and happy that I pinch myself. I say which mistake did I make to create the wonder of what is today!

      CrisSp,

One of the things I really admire about you is your classy, "cut above" style and grace. It makes you ageless.

I like what you said in the caption under one of your linked poems, "Aging Graciously"--"...time is a concept that humans created." You are absolutely right. It's as ludicrous as the concept of man owning land.

My view is that eternity is timeless. My body might be changing, but the essence of "me" remains in that kindergarten sandbox as I learn what sharing is all about; at age 13 when I'm in the midst of my first passionate kiss, and I don't know what the heck is happening to my body; at 19 when I gaze into the beautiful eyes of my newborn son; at 47 when I learn I'm a new grandpa; at 59 when I discover and relocate in a tranquil little writer's town called HubPages...

The palette on which we paint the masterpiece of our life isn't moving at the speed of light; it's standing still, one of many classic pieces of art languished over, admired, appreciated, and blessed by the Master Artist Himself. It's ageless, timeless, eternal.

Happy Blessed Eternal Birthday, dear friend! That was so very sweet of your daughter to bake that special cake for you. Thank you for sharing this wonderful and memorable event with us.
