The Deception
The smell of it entices your senses.
The feel of it drives you wild.
It draws you in and screams for your attention.
The moment the sound caresses your ear,
You are moved by its rhythm.
It carries your heartbeat to the heavens.
It enters into your mind and brings you joy.
Say it out loud with a smile again and again.
The thought of it makes you laugh.
Over and over you think about it…
Dream about it… talk about it.
Each time it takes you deeper into your special place.
Do you know what it is?
What is its name?
The power of it controls your thoughts.
Spellbound, you follow its voice.
Star struck, you can’t stay away.
It begins to dwell inside your head.
Your heart lets its roots dig in.
Its grasp is so tight and won’t let go!
The smiles turn to frowns.
Its lasting impression starts to take shape
And hints of darkness set in.
You repeat it every day, every hour even!
But you cannot stop it.
It has total rule over your life.
Do you recognize it?
Will it go away?
The joy you had slowly drains away.
It no longer brings you pleasure.
Darkness has embodied the light.
Surrounded by the ugliness of it,
You cry out, but no one hears you.
You reach out but no one’s there.
Dragged down by its authority,
You are slave to it,
And obey it without question.
There is no end in sight,
And you realize you can’t break it.
You can’t release it.
Have you figured it out?
Can anyone take it away?
