The Seasons In Socks - Haiku

Updated on January 5, 2013
Source

I love socks. I find them oddly comforting. A good pair of socks can brighten my day or send me off to cozy sleep. Take a journey from Spring to Winter as you follow these socks from little girl to adult.

Lacey. Delicate.
Inside patent leather shoes.
Easter egg hunting!

Tucked away in pairs.
Impatiently wait for shoes.
Grass blades between toes.

Knee high. Bright bold stripes
meet the hem of pleated skirt.
Rustle through the leaves.

Thick wool soft and warm.
Two pairs mingle by the fire.
Snow on windowsill.

bravewarrior - Thanks for dropping in to check out my socks! I have been a frequent visitor to Florida and I do remember chilly weather on occasion. Obviously here in NY fuzzy socks are a must! A nice pair of slipper socks sounds like a good idea!!! :)

Dana, I love your socks! When I'm not in bare feet I'm in warm cozy slipper socks. If my toes are cold the rest of me is, too. And, yes it gets cold in Florida!

Love to you from me and my pink slipper socks!

I am so glad you appreciate my use of odd subjects. I have so much fun with it. I do love reading and writing about "the same old" things, but why not throw a few curve balls out there when I can... I wonder what my silly imagination will come up with next!

The pink and black socks are super cute. I like to call them my Christmas holiday socks. I wish it was colder here in Miami though. A very good haiku. You're so creative! I love how you can just write about anything and make it into a poem. I did read your peanut butter & jelly, just didn't leave a comment. My mind was running wild! Now, every time I eat a PB&J, I think of your poem.

Oh Dana, what a beautiful haiku. Loved it more because of the topic-socks.

Socks and I are inseparable. Can't do without them not only in winter (we have only a pleasant winter here) but also in summer because I will need them even when I go to air-conditioned malls or movie houses or on flights.

This is due to my arthritis and I have come to love them for their support. Thanks Dana for a wonderful haiku. Cheers, Rema.

Are you contemplating publishing a collection of your haikus (autographed copy to HS teachers, of course)...?

OK, I'm a nurse and I admit I have a penchant for 'anatomy and physiology'... yet your work teaches a much broader message...

I will be 'heading for your hand' work next... and there had better be a 'glove' one in the wings...(LOL)! I love these and want more!

Voted UP & UABI. Many hugs, Maria

Bob - You crack me up! I never know what you are gonna say next! So, socks in bed were your thing. interesting. I had a male friend that loved when I would wear thigh highs. I called them my "slutty tights" :)

Whenever someone would ask me what I wanted as a gift, I would say I wanted socks. They thought I was just trying to be frugal. No, I really like socks. One day my daughter listened and bought a pair of socks with a picture of Betty Boop on them and I was so happy.

      Beautiful Haiku. I can relate!
