What do you enjoy reading most--a full fledged novel or short stories?
Political and economical related. I read enough fiction in my life
I like to read novel as well as the short stories. But I prefer to read the short stories.
For me there is no question, novels beat short stories hands down. I don't dislike short stories, but when I read fiction, I prefer to travel to a different world and then stay there for a while. Short stories don't have the same amount of time to build the world, nor do I get to stay as long. I have a similar struggle when it comes to writing novels versus short stories. I'm not trying to imply that writing a novel is easy, but I honestly struggle more with shorter fiction and I find myself losing interest when I try to write a new one or edit an old one. I'm not sure why I feel this way, but it seems to have followed me throughout my experiences with literature.
Hmmm-- you seem to be a passionate writer and reader. Thanks for sharing your views.
Most of all, I like essays. Behind the essay, I like the novel. I prefer novels to plays, but I prefer plays to short stories. I like short stories more than poetry.
Basically you are a reading enthusiast. Thanks for responding to the question.
Definitely novels; either fiction or nonfiction. I seem to "get lost" (become engulfed) in novels; whereas, short stories seldom allow for this deeper association... I recently read an excellent, yet unknown novel by the infamous New Yorker, William Peter Blatty called Demeter.
Thanks for sharing your views and the picture. I share the same views and would read this novel, for sure.
Chitrangada,
This novel will influence you significantly; it is well written...

Let's support our own efforts by reading each other's short stories, then leaving a comment at the bottom of the hub (pro or con). I have three stories posted at jfrankdunkin.hubpages.com. They are, "The Baroness of Haut De Cagnes", "Recess, the Podium Light", and...

Do you enjoy reading Flash Fiction?Flash Fiction is defined first as a work of fiction under 1000 words. Second it is not a vignette, but must be a complete story containing a strong plot and a distinct beginning and ending. Is this type of fiction satisfying to you as a reader?

I do like to read short story than a novel. But if I got a good novel or a novel of a famous writer then I read that. What you prefer among them.

Can a hub be a work of fiction? i.e. short stories or novels?

I just read an article on the Mythic Scribes forum that was complaining how many new writers want to jump right in and write an epic novel (this IS a sci-fi/fantasy writer's forum) with no experience... suggesting maybe newbies would be better off sticking to the short story for a few years before...
