I love all books written by Esmeralda Santiago. From her best selling memoir When I was Puerto Rican to her current novel Conquistadora. The main character, Ana is an independent and smart woman who might not be real in 1493. However, it creates a make believe story that such an intelligent woman might be possible in the historical fiction. I read this book for one of my classes and some of my classmates hate her while some love her. There is really no in between love and hate for this character. I was wondering for those who read this book, what is your opinion on Ana?
