Some people are, we see them walking around with the things glued to their ears, even see people with Spock type devices sticking out of their ears, just so that they won't miss that important call.
I was once accosted by an idiot with one of these monstrosities sticking out of her ear. She suggested I needed one to so that I didn't miss an important call? An important call is your house burning down, an accident, someone has died, think about it, how often do we get that sort of call; she thought that her boss calling her was important, we don't want to give them more power than they already have.
I have a mobile phone, it is in my pocket when I go out in the car, it is there in case I break down, I use it once every 180 days to satisfy the contractual requirements, other than that, it is never turned on.
