Has anyone read J D Salinger' Catcher In The Rye? and what are your thoughts on it?
I read it in high school. I don't remember a lot about it -- other than I felt sorry for the main character. That was 20+ years ago, and haven't read it since.
I read this in high school and wrote a book report about it. It has been too long for me to remember a lot of detail, but I remember that I had a great affinity for it and I've read it more than once. I have thought of getting back to it since J.D. Salinger just died last year.
Yes, I think it is required reading for all High Schoolers. No on etakes it very seriously.
I think it is singular, funny and heartbreaking. It's a shame that so many see it as no more than high school required reading. I the good fortune to read it as an adult. It is one of those great novels that anyone can read it, but not everyone can understand.

Have you read Harry Potter and do remember the first time you read the first book of your choice. I remember reading the 1st book when I was a 13year old and that was nearly ten years ago.
