What is your favorite book on the craft of writing and who wrote it?
Strunk and White's Elements of Style. It's dry and boring but it's truth. These are the rules you need to known before you break them.
Stephen King's On Writing is a joy to read. It's also semi-autobiographical which gives a window into the life of an influential writer. And, though I can't remember the author's name, I would also recommend "How Not to Write a Novel". Teaching with humor is what speaks the loudest to me, because the author isn't trying to take himself/herself too seriously.
On Writing by Stephen King really affected me. I thoroughly enjoyed it and took a lot of what he has to say to heart.
