Are you really satisfied with romantic novels that have happy endings?
I caught myself thinking about this the other day as I was devising a romantic story in my head. I created these characters over 8 years ago, and after all this time I figured it out. To make the story great-- kill one of them. I find that happy endings don't really do it for me. They're unrealistic. I like tragedy. It surfaces much more emotion to the characters.
I actually don't like it when things don't end on a good note! It gets me so mad when it doesn't end the way I want it too:( There are some stories though that I do like for there to be a change in pace. I agree some happy endings are unrealistic but they do make me feel happy knowing that it ended in a sweet way:)
I read fiction to escape reality. No life does not necessarily end happily but I want my books to end happily. If I want reality I'll relive my childhood or read the news. I love the escapism of romantic novels (but not graphic sex scenes).
Personally, I don't want to read or watch a romantic story that doesn't have a happy ending. Life's often tragic enough as it is, no need for my fiction to do the same. Though of course, there are exceptions like PS I Love You Not to mention that even though happily ever afters rarely exist in real life, they do happen. I prefer to be more optimistic about my chances
Dear Miss Annabella,
I guess it depends on the person. Me personally, I like the happy endings I hate when it ends in tragedy. Even so though, if the story has a realistic idea behind it. I guess, I can read it. I would try to be more understanding. I try not to read a tragedy though. I guess that's just me.

Why do people like tragedies in movies, books, etc? I usually prefer happy movies with happy endings, perhaps I'm just a sucker for happiness or something. But really, why do people like unhappy endings where people die, or loss of love, etc?

If you could look in the mirror and be 100% happy with what you see, what would you see?I know not many people are happy with the way they look. So if you could look in the mirror and be 100% happy with what you see, what would you see?

Do you believe that people are unhappy because they have unrealistic expectations of life?
