Has anyone here ever entered the Bulwer-Lytton fiction contest?
This is a contest with no (as far as I can tell) prize except for the sheer (and perhaps dubious) honor of winning. For all lovers of the extreme cliche. (I have wanted to enter in the past-- maybe this year).
No, my wife and I have never entered, but we've played with the idea and come up with some ridiculous sentences. There seems to be two different versions of the criterion for winning. Is it the "worst opening sentence" of a novel, or the "opening sentence of the worst novel"? Winners seem to be sometimes one, sometimes the other.
