As we say in the timing section of our contest page, the final deadline for entries is Thursday, June 28th at 12:00pm (PT), so there's stil time to submit!

Our first Daily Drawing winner is Low Calorie Lemonade - The Perfect Summer Drink by toomuchmint! Congrats, toomuchmint!

Ah, I love contest months. GIVING AWAY MONEY IS SO MUCH FUN!!

Though the recipes people entered today were quite great! I wish I could give $50 to a lot more than one.

If you didn't win today, but submitted an entry, don't worry! You might still win one of the first week's seven Weekly Prizes, which are selected for their quality.

Simone, I went to the "enter the contest" link in the rules section, and it isn't there.   What should I do to submit my recipe.  Thanks!  ~First timer (first time to hub a recipe and first time to enter a contest).

What link????  I've read the entire page, and cannot find a link in order to start a new hub for the contest.

I thought that you just had to create a new hub, post the link to the hub in the other thread and it would be automatically entered.

        Simone???  Help!!!  (or Jason..... HELP!!!!)

I've published my first but will hold off until I hear back.....

There is no link. Just publish Hubs using at least the Ratings Capsule set to recipe ratings as we direct you on the contest page. I'll paste those steps again for quick reference:

COOKBOOK CONTEST - HOW TO ENTER
        Join HubPages
Make sure you are enrolled in the HubPages Earnings Program (this is how we distribute winnings)
Publish a recipe Hub using the Recipe Capsules, at the minimum, using the Ratings Capsule configured for a recipe

          Hello Simone,
Well your not the first one I am asking this but let is be the last person.
I published 2 hubs for the contest. 20 hours back. It still states 'submitted for publication' and its green. This has not happened when I published a hub a few days back. Is this new at HP?

By what I read, hope my account is not deleted.

          Thank you.

Simone Smithposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Hey bushraismail! Not to worry. It looks like you've had a couple of Hubs moderated recently, and when that happens, sometimes new Hubs have to be reviewed before being published. So those Hubs will be published as soon as they're reviewed- and you don't have to worry about them not counting for the contest; the final submission deadline isn't until the 28th!

Don't worry too much about exact marks with this contest- it'll all be fine! After you have published a bunch of Hubs that all meet HubPages' publishing standards and our moderation team sees that you're straight on all those details, you won't need to have your Hubs reviewed anymore. It's no big deal! smile

    Hello,

I created a recipe that follows all the rules, but have a few questions.

    1. Can I enter the contest at anytime from this point on for the month of June?

2.Do I just hit publish and it will be voted on?

3.Is there a certain location where it needs to be posted?

    Thanks

This is probably a silly question, but what determines which of the winning categories a recipe gets entered in? Could something, for instance, win both the budget-friendly and dessert options?

    1. Simone Smith profile image83
Simone Smithposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Totally! It's just up to the judges to decide which recipe ends up winning in each category.

If I were to enter, I'd do a TON in the drinks category. We don't see a lot of drink recipes, so I bet one has a better shot there. Just a thought. wink

From what I understand, all you need to do is to create a recipe Hub that uses HP's new recipe capsules. You can tell everyone about your Hub in the Share and Discuss forum thread http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/98595 but I don't think you MUST share it in order to be entered.

    Simone can you confirm this?

Also, I'm loving the new recipe capsules and I know they can really help to improve your SEO's. I'm wondering if it's Ok to start re-editing my published recipes with the new capsules during the contest. Will those old Hubs be automatically entered into the contest too?  I want to play by the rules smile

    1. Simone Smith profile image83
Simone Smithposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Yep! The minimum requirement is that the Hub contain the Ratings Capsule set to Recipe Ratings, but if you want to win anything notable, I recommend including as many Recipe Capsules as possible.

I'm so glad you're enjoying the Recipe Capsules, Green Lotus! You can totally re-edit old recipes to add those capsules during the contest. You don't have to worry about them being entered or anything- we're only looking at newly published Hubs. smile

June 2nd: Review of Poet Sylvia Plath's Tomato Soup Cake Recipe by Victoria Lynn
June 3rd: How to Make Easy Garlic Parmesan Crusted Chicken Wings by Austinstar

I'm particularly excited about this batch because I ADORE each and every one of those Hubs! With those original photos and great explanations, I reckon they might also be seen as potential Best Weekly Hub winners, too.

Keep these gorgeous recipes coming, everyone! I'm DYING of hunger, but really enjoying them!

    3 Questions:

    1. Can we enter more than one recipe during this June contest?

    2. If the recipe has a video and it is on youtube, is it ok to monetize the youtube video? Or do you prefer we wait to do that after the contest ends?

    3. Is there any limit to the number of recipes and/or categories we enter? I wanted to make sure it is ok to publish more recipes this month; especially if a recipe has won one of the daily prizes.

I don't intend to add a bunch, but I would like to publish a few more this month. Thank you.

    1. bushraismail profile image58
bushraismailposted 12 years agoin reply to this

      1. Yes we can enter more than one.

      2. No problem in monetizing as far as I know.

      3. Your hub has to be original and published for the first time. I am wondering what that was about winning daily prize.. oh your mac..ya sure it alright.

      Hope you are clear.

Hi, Simone, please clear something up for me.  I have a great dessert recipe but it comes to 250 words in Microsoft Word.  Does it have to be 500 words for the AP program, please advise.  Not sure if recipes are considered a different animal entirely.  Thanks!

    2. Simone Smith profile image83
Simone Smithposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Heya bridalletter! Just to be clear, you can publish as many as five entries each day of the contest, and you are certainly not limited by recipe type; you can publish as many different styles of recipes as you like.

And even though you've won a DD prize, that doesn't mean you can't win more!!

So, I take it a recipe hub can't be a video????

    1. cardelean profile image86
cardeleanposted 12 years agoin reply to this

There are several recipe hubs that are videos.  You just need to make sure that the other requirements are there as well.  I've done recipe hubs that have videos in the past (not for the contest) and Leah Leffler has done a cute one with her son on making cinnamon buns.  The only problem with a video hub right now is that there is a bug that's causing a processing problem which will delay your submission right now.  smile

      1. DzyMsLizzy profile image91
DzyMsLizzyposted 12 years agoin reply to this

ah. ok.  Well, I'm not that sharp about getting videos done..but I did notice a choice (in the formatting for new hubs) for 'video' and then, within the edit screen in an existing hub for 'convert to video.'
So, I guess I was curious.  I played with the recipe capsule format last nigt, and converted one of my older posts that happened to be a recipe.  (I don't do a lot of recipes...) ... It was fairly smooth, but I did have a couple of problems..the main one of which was Firefox not wanting to do copy/paste.  So I had to save, sign out, and come back on IE.

I'm not sufficiently computer-tech savvy to follow the directions Firefox gave for allowing that function--with my luck, I'd screw something up, and my husband would be cross.  wink

How do you enter the 'sub' categories? - for example - how do I enter the "Best Budget-Friendly Recipe"?

    1. Simone Smith profile image83
Simone Smithposted 12 years agoin reply to this

You don't need to submit them- we spot 'em! So, for example, if you write a recipe that emphasizes frugality, or is designed for family dinners, we'll make note.
By not forcing folks to submit to a specific category, we can make it possible for Hubs to be considered for multiple prizes (which would be great for a frugal, family-friendly, dessert beverage, hehee!).

Yes, it's a very strict rule and I'm afraid to say that I've had to pass on a couple potential Daily Drawing winners because they're too short.
Do amend the entries you've submitted to make them meet the minimum- even though they've lost their DD shot, they could still win a weekly prize if they're updated before they're reviewed.

I was wondering how this hub could be the winner for June 12 when it was not published until June 13?

      1. IzzyM profile image83
IzzyMposted 12 years agoin reply to this

LOL, of course published dates are showing up on the new hub layout! It does say it was published on the 13th, and the published dates are California time.

Indeed, how can it be the winner for the 12th?

      2. Simone Smith profile image83
Simone Smithposted 12 years agoin reply to this

The timing for each contest day starts at noon on one day and ends at noon on the next. So the June 12th Hub was published before the official "June 13th contest day" began at noon (PT) on June 13th.

Does that make sense? Sorry- I know it's a bit confusing.

Heya TripleAMom! The other threads are for links; this one is for Q&A. So long as your Hub meets contest requirements before it is reviewed (either for Daily Drawing prizes or weekly/final prizes, which happens in different batches), it's OK! big_smile

Quick question Simone.  (I apologize if this has already been stated somewhere.)  What is the cut off for the weekly entries.  I know the daily is noon PT, but what is the day/time for hubs to be considered for the weekly priZe?  Thanks!  Finally got some time to get some submitted!  smile

    1. Simone Smith profile image83
Simone Smithposted 12 years agoin reply to this

The cutoff for the weekly entries is Wednesdays at noon (PT), since the first day of the contest was on a Thursday. But the only cutoff date that really matters is the final one! Everything will be considered for weekly prizes- the only thing that changes is the batch against which each Hub is compared.

I know hub recipes have to be at least 500 words. Is this the article part only? Or the recipe hub as a whole?

    1. Simone Smith profile image83

It's all the text in the Hub, which includes text in tables, text in Recipe Capsules, etc. big_smile

We actually thought of making a printed cookbook of all the entries... but then we realized that it's not so easy to do, considering that everyone owns their content. I love the binder idea, though!

      1. cardelean profile image86
cardeleanposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Maybe not a printed cookbook Simone but perhaps there could be a section on HP just for the recipes that were submitted for the contest.  Unfortunately not everyone shares their recipes in the forums and I know June has been a crazy month for me so I haven't had as much time to read the entries as I had hoped.  It would be nice to have an "easy to get to" spot with the submissions.  smile

    1. LetitiaFT profile image72
LetitiaFTposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Hi Julie, the capsule you need to include for the contest is the rating capsule. If you've got that, you're in! Good luck!

    2. Simone Smith profile image83
Simone Smithposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Yep- that, plus you need to make sure that:
      1. The Ratings Capsule is set to Recipe Ratings
      2. The Hub is at least 500 words
      3. All images in the Hub are legally used and properly cited.

Stop by our contest page for full details re: entry requirements and judging criteria. smile

      1. LetitiaFT profile image72
LetitiaFTposted 12 years agoin reply to this

Hi Simone, what does "set for recipe ratings mean" mean? I selected "recipe" for a few new hubs and the recipe capsules didn't show. I had to add them "manually". Now you've got me wondering if they're still eligible?!

        1. Simone Smith profile image83
Simone Smithposted 12 years agoin reply to this

When you add a Ratings Capsule and set it up, you can choose to have the ratings be for a recipe, a single person review, or a multiple person review. You must select the recipe option to have your Hub count as a contest entry.

            Hi Simone,
So what you are saying is that it's possible that if we did not specifically set the ratings capsule for a recipe, we have not been included in the contest?  I wanted to go back into mine to check but then I will lose the votes.  So without losing votes, how can I tell I set it up correctly?  I know, it sounds like a silly question, but honestly I am not sure.
Is the default for the ratings capsule for recipes?  Thanks!
