Here are some of the main summer programs from our local library: Summer Reading Celebration for kids of all ages, Book trailer contest for teens - Create and submit a book trailer review for Summer Reading, Graphic Novel Contest for everyone.
Reading, painting, drawing, promoting our rich cultures through history books.
I am not aware of summer reading programs, but our library is very active year around. They have weekly children's reading programs, they keep a used bookstore that is manned twice each week by volunteers to sell used books, (it is called "Books Galore".)
Recently they started a free seed exchange program, where seeds of vegetables and flowers may be obtained free of charge, with only one proviso, the recipient needs to bring either their own seeds or a recently purchased packet to replace.
They are presently engaging in an adult writing and reading study program, to help prospective writers.
Our community is blessed with several professional writers of the freelance and book publishing bent, and authors are provided book signing events complete with refreshments for buyers.
They are presently in negotiation with some writing groups to prepare an anthology of short stories written by locals.
We have a very active, capable group of librarians, plus a number of volunteers to man the desks, so the library remains very much an essential part of our community.
Mine has an ongoing (summer long) summer reading program. Every year there is a different theme, which is chosen by the Massachusetts Library Association and used at libraries all across the state. Basically each participant receives a reading log which they fill in throughout the summer, my library has always done a great job with incentives/prizes for participants i.e. raffle entries, t-shirts, and free books. I received my favorite book of all time - Frances Hogsdon Burnett's "A Little Princess" as my prize book one summer! They also have a summer reading program specifically for daycare centers and a bunch of programs like crafts, story times etc.
Our library has a reading program that lasts from June 1st to August 4th. At one hour the kids got registered. At eight hours, they got to pick from a treasure chest. At 16 hours they get to pick another prize. At 20 plus hours they get entered in a drawing for every hour and a free book. If they get 30 or more hours they get entered for a free book party.

Do you own a library card?Libraries are a dying breed in the ever expanding world of technology. Every Wednesday morning, I take my daughter to story time for babies at the local library. Every free Saturday, we take my kindergartner to the library to play and pick our books! How often do you visit...
