In the spirit of JRR Tolken and The Hobbit, I feel in love with the series by Tad Williamson, entitled, "The Dragonbone Chair". There is a set of 4 books.
I think Diana Wynne Jones is one of the greatest fantasy authors of all time. Her series "The Dalemark Quartet" is a good epic fantasy. However, I highly recommend her spoof guidebook "Tough Guide to Fantasy Land" and her novel "The Dark Lord of Derkholm." "Tough Guide" pokes fun at epic fantasies in general. It's a glossary of witches, dark citadels, and magic swords. The second is a novel that, in a way, goes along with the guide. In it, a regular world forces a magical world to host epic quests for tourists. The magical world is nearly ruined by this as the tourists are constantly "pillaging" their lands as part of the tours. The magical residents do not have time to take care of their world as they are playing characters such as dark lords and enchantresses. In the novel, a mild mannered wizard named Derk is chosen to play the dark lord. Even while pretending to die at the hands of the heroic tourists, he and his family must find a way to save their world from the destructive tours.
It's great how Jones good-naturedly uses the tours to poke fun at epic fantasies. The characters in the novel are told they must act in a certain way--as one might expect from stock fantasy characters. The tourists are upset when their adventures are not epic enough.
It's a great read, and I recommend it, especially if you've read many other epic fantasies!
The lord of the rings and the hobbit. I like the hobbit the most though

Describe your secret fantasy?Although I do not think rape is at all right the fantasy exists in my head. Being on vacation on some warm tropical island and being taken sexually at night on the beach by someone I didn't know is a fantasy that makes me wet

Can you recommend an epic fantasy novel with a female protagonist?I'm a big fan of the epic fantasy genre (long journey, fate of the world hangs in the balance). But upon reflecting on what I've read, there are few female protagonists. There are strong female characters, but none of them drove the...

I was reading about the fate of the Donner party recently, and I somehow ended up on a site about cannibalism. I was shocked to discover that there are actually people who want to be killed and consumed by other humans. They put personal ads in periodicals seeking potential killers-consumers. I...
