What is the most important classic book you didn't read in college but wish you had?
Grapes of Wrath - don't misunderstand, except for The Pearl and a couple of short stories when I discovered he understood humor - I just couldn't handle Steinbeck.
I would have to say Jane Eyre. I do not know how as an English Major I managed to miss reading this wonderful novel but Edward Fairfax Rochester is my new favorite literary leading man - Even more so than Mr. Darcy or Christian Grey. However, it did seem a little contrived that she wandered for days and coincidentally ended up at the home of her cousins.
Ulysses, I got the book in college but didn't have the time to read it and then I ended up getting sidetracked by the long list of books I still want to read. I've got a feeling I'm going to try to read it pretty soon though.
