I like the following lyrics because it makes me realize sometimes when life is so hard and heartbreaking, that there is light at the end of the dark tunnel of life.

By Rascal Flatts:  Bless the Broken Road

I set out on a narrow way, many years ago
Hoping I would find true love along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
Wiped my brow and kept pushing through
I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true

That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
    Yes He did

I think about the years I spent, just passing through
I'd like to have the time I lost, and give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
    You've been there, you understand
It's all part of a grander plan that is coming true

Every long lost dream led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart, they were like northern stars
Pointing me on my way into your loving arms
This much I know is true

That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you

    Dylan's - Forever Young

"May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
    May you stay forever young
    Forever young, forever young
    May you stay forever young."

It meant one thing in 1974 and something equally comforting now, nearly 40 years later.

For me, it would have to be Loreena McKennitt's song titled Dante's Prayer. The lyrics are the property of Loreena McKennitt and are only printed here to answer this question.

"When the dark wood fell before me
And all the paths were overgrown
When the priests of pride say there is no other way
I tilled the sorrows of stone

I did not believe because I could not see
Though you came to me in the night
When the dawn seemed forever lost
You showed me your love in the light of the stars

Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
    Please remember me

Then the mountain rose before me
By the deep well of desire
    From the fountain of forgiveness
    Beyond the ice and fire

Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
    Please remember me

Though we share this humble path, alone
    How fragile is the heart
Oh give these clay feet wings to fly
To touch the face of the stars

Breathe life into this feeble heart
Lift this mortal veil of fear
Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears
We'll rise above these earthly cares

Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
    Please remember me
    Please remember me"

This song gets me every time. The first time I heard it, I was driving and had to pull over when I heard the last verse because I was crying! I was planning my wedding and was having trouble finding a Father/Daughter dance song. As soon as I heard this song, I KNEW this was the perfect song! At my wedding I cried at the 3rd verse. My Dad is hard of hearing and couldn't hear the lyrics. I found a book with the lyrics and gave it to him for Father's Day.

    "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlisle

There's two things I know for sure
She was sent here from heaven
    And she's daddy's little girl
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night
She talks to Jesus and I close my eyes
And I thank God for all of the joy in my life
    Oh but most of all

For butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair
Walk beside the pony daddy it's my first ride
I know the cake looks funny daddy but I sure tried

Oh with all that I've done wrong
I must have done something right
To deserve a hug every mornin'
    And butterfly kisses at night

    Sweet 16 today
She's lookin' like her mama a little more every day
One part woman the other part girl
To perfume and make up from ribbons and curls
Trying her wings out in a great big world
    But I remember

    Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair
You know how much I love you daddy
    But if you don't mind
I'm only gonna kiss you on the check this time

Oh with all that I've done wrong
I must have done something right
To deserve her love every mornin'
    And butterfly kisses at night

    All the precious time
Like the wind the years go by
    Precious butterfly
    Spread your wings and fly

    She'll change her name today
She'll make a promise and I'll give her aways
Standing in the bride room just staring at her
She asked me what I'm thinkin'
And I said I'm not sure
I just feel like I'm loosin' my baby girl
    And she leaned over

Gave me butterfly kisses with her mama there
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair
Walk me down the isle daddy
    It's just about time
Does my wedding gown look pretty daddy?
    Daddy's don't cry

Oh with all that I've done wrong
I must have done something right
To deserve her love every mornin'
    And butterfly kisses

I couldn't ask God for more than this is what love is
I know I've got to let her go but I'll always remember
Every hug in the mornin' and butterfly kisses
