Someone is pirating my book!
In November I published "Blood of the Fallen", wrote a Hub about it and did a bit of advertising, nothing too flashy. I haven't sold many copies, a few paperbacks and about 30 ebooks.
I wanted to see how it came up in Google so I searched my name and the title. The first link is a torrent website with MY book on it!
I know messaging the guy who uploaded it and asking him to take it down won't do anything. Should I be happy about the free advertising? Or upset that it's being pirated?
Here's the link: https://kickass.so/new-blood-of-the-fal … 60709.html
While I don't agree with pirating, those who are looking for torrents wouldn't buy your book anyway in all honesty because they are out there getting something for nothing. I would contact the uploader and at least try, explain to him that you are depending on this for your income and that you aren't some "big wig" making a million dollars on book sales etc. and that his/her actions have hurt you directly. I think a lot of people who do this, don't realize their actions have real life consequences for other people. The same people who use torrent sites would probably not walk up to you on the street and rob you (most of them) but for some reason people feel entitled to things on the internet.
You could also see who is hosting this site and go through other channels, report them to google so they don't show up in search results at least.
Contact the website and explain that the book was illegally uploaded, and to please remove it.
Sorry that your book is being offered at https://kickass. Whether they are charging or giving it for free, it is a violation as you have not given permission.
Go to that link again and scroll down to the bottom of the webpage. You will find some links at the bottom line. Click on the DMCA link and file a complaint. They have explained their "content removal regulations." We can only hope that they will act on your complaint, but you must at least try.
Good luck and keep publishing.
Sorry to hear this Poppy. I see a lot of this on the net. I'm beginning to think that maybe the only way of preventing theft is to return to the good old paperback books.
Best wishes,
Randall

I know many of the writers on hubpages are also independent authors and are either working on or have already published a book (or more). Do you create trailers for your books? And if so, have you found them to be helpful in promoting them?

Is it better to allow your photos to be shared or should you protect them from being copied?
