In the first place, you have to realize that all publishers take risks in producing books. They need a guarantee that your book will sell. Therefore, most publishers require you to have thousands of followers on the internet. Only after making yourself known in this way, will a publisher even look at your work ... which must be beyond interesting. So, basically, the most important thing you have to figure out is, what would make who you are and what you write about interesting to thousands of people.

Also, consider that the final manuscript could end up being more than four hundred pages long, by the time you are ready to submit it to a publisher.  This endeavor could take up to four years, writing four hours or more, every day.  And then, after you have produced what you think is a wonderful, heartfelt, creative and provocative story, novel, biography or autobiography, etc.,  most publishers you send it to will probably reject it, not willing to loose money on something that, very likely, no one will purchase.

... well, good luck with that book. Writing a book and getting it published is like winning the lottery, if you ask me.
Every book that actually gets published is a MIRACLE!

The question ALWAYS is, will it sell?

But don't let that stop you!

I think you should just start writing. Keep writing what's on your mind. You will be amazed with the result. Then a bit of editing and your masterpiece is done! Good luck, you can do this!

There are lots of inspiration for writers nowadays. I, personally, use Pinterest. Amazing resource where you can find not only different prompts for writing, but also visualize your characters, for example.

Get an account on Twitter.  #WritingCommunity there are thousand of writers there who can help and encourage you.  I have never published a book so I cannot give you advice as far as that goes however, I have met and bought books from several indie authors there.  It's a start at least, and I cannot express how supportive most people in the writing community on twitter are.
