What a poignant story! Peggy did a great job of giving us a glimpse into the life of WWII pilots. She inherited a piece of history in the form of the letter that was sent to her mother.

Thanks to both of you for sharing!

Thank you for sharing this with us, Chitrangada.  What a beautifully written WWII story, Peggy. This was not only a privilege to read, but inspiring.  What happened to Irv, the remembrance of the time he spent with his friend, how the test of faith can bring meaning into lives and our hearts at times when it is needed the most, and well as Irv’s passing, all so touchingly expressed, brought tears to my eyes.

What a beautiful story. I am so sad it ended that way for Irv. Wonderfully written, Peg, and thank you for sharing the letter to your mother. The images you created were perfect too.

    Hi Shauna,

It was only in that brief time frame that the training for new pilots was drastically shortened.  Normally, it would take up to 2 years to fully train a pilot.  I appreciate your reading this and leaving a comment.

    Hi John,

Yes, it was a sad ending for Irv, as it was for so many young pilots in training. He was a wonderful young man according to his roommate and friend Dale.  He is now memorialized and remembered because of what his friend wrote about him.  Thanks for taking the time to read this account.

    Hi Marlene,

It was definitely a touching letter.  Thanks for taking the time to read it and leave your comment.  I found it interesting to know how that airport is used today.
