Mrs Thomas Smith of Ryde, NSW, Australia, produced this new variety of fruit in 1868.
Dwarf Granny Smith, this is the answer. It does not need to be longer. It was an accidental discovery in her garden.
Although it was an accidental discovery still it got this name, The Granny Smith Apple.
