vinyl is uPVC or just PVC. It is a plastic that can be used to make home products such as UPVC window frames or vinyl records. While uPVC is safe for the consumer, there are many concerns about the pollution from factories that make uPVC and PVC. This pollution has been linked to cancer.
Plastic is of course made from petrol - a non-renewable resource that we seem to be addicted to.
