Is real estate a good career to get into?

I've been offered an internship in real estate and am going to take it. Since it's in France, I'll be translating housing ads into English while improving my French before I start to actually work with clients. What I want to know, is, is real estate picking up again? Is it a good career path to take? What are your experiences?

Real estate is a great career to get into.  The market is not good now, but it will eventually get better.  Learning about real estate in a down market will prepare you for the next time the real estate market is down.  Most people get into real estate during a housing boom and they do not know how to cope with a down real estate market.

You will also gain valuable experience in your internship that may lead to other career opportunities as well.

Real Estate has generally been viewed as one of those areas that always bounces back. However, don't expect it ever to return to the "pre-bubble" days before 2008. Also, it will depend on how old you are and how much longer you intend to work. America is about to suffer a huge problem, the baby boomers are going to retire and die a couple of decades later. When that happens, we will have more houses than people and property values will fall dramatically. Unless of course, we continually breed like rabbits and somehow outpace our losses. If you're in France, I imagine you would be all right since the U.S. market wouldn't have a huge impact on you.

Go right ahead. A job at the time is normally difficult to find. To be a real estate agent, you have to pass a test. That is basically all that is required. It is good to look your best at all times when selling products. Also you have to be good at reading people and conversing with them.

Thanks for the answers. And, yes, I would be working in France for at least 6 months.
