    Why do you trench tomatoes? What is that exactly?

    Is it the best way?

    It is if your plants are tall. Tomatoes have roots all along the stem. All the hair like ends you see are potential root ends, By trenching you get the advatage of more roots which deliver more food to your plant, making a stronger root system.
