How do you remove cooking grease from your walls and appliances?

I'm not sure if ordinary household cleaners will do or if steam will help to get rid of this sticky mess. Any suggestions?

My "go to" solution is a product called "Simple Green". I buy it at home improvement stores, like Lowes and Home Depot. It can be used full strength for greasy, stuck on cleanup messes, but I find that if I add a small amount of water, then it works best. I pour a cup of Simple Green into a bowl and then I add 1/4 cup of water. Measurements are eyeball approximates. Then, I use a sponge to clean up the mess. Sometimes, I have to let it sit for a minute or two before wiping the mess with clean water.

Another thing I have tried for sticky greasy messes is baking soda. I sprinkle baking soda onto a damp sponge and then wipe. It tends to do the job quite well. But, for those occasions where I have let things go too long (like the bottom of the toaster oven), then I use the Simple Green.

I use a citrus based cleaner or a product called Advanage, nearly full strength w/ gloves on, in hot water. If grease is heavily baked on tile or glass, I will scrap the residue w/ a razor blade, then follow with the cleaner. It may take several applications, especially if the grease has been allowed to oxidize. Marlene's suggestion of Simple Green is great too. I just personally dislike its smell.

I find a little sugar soap and some kitchen roll removes all grease and leaves a nice shine on all your surfaces

A degreaser will work fine, you can get it a walmart or auto parts store fairly cheap.

I agree with MarleneB, Simple Green works well and I also use it in the bathroom on the vanity and toilet.

I also have a homemade solution in a spray bottle made up of washing soda, Borax, vinegar, dishwashing detergent and water.  This concoction will cut grease like I don't know what.  I use it to clean my flat top oven, walls, and countertops. It is non-toxic and you can pronounce all of the ingredients.
