How do you remove moss, from rocks?

I found some beautiful rocks, I am wanting to place around my garden, but have not been able to get the awful green stains off of them.

Why in the world would you want to remove moss from rocks?

Are you sure this is moss? Moss is much more than just "stains". Moss is more like a soft, green carpet of life that often covers parts of rocks. When you look at it closely, it almost looks like a miniature forest.

I scraped the fuzzy looking stuff off, with a paint scraper, but there is still a slight green residue left on the rocks. I don't like the color, and I am wanting to place the rocks around my garden.

    Hi Mary,
From your description, it sounds like you may have found the rocks near a pond on creek where the sides are a chartreuse green. I'd treat them w/ white vinegar or a natural soap-based algae cleaner like Safer Moss & Algae remover. Put them out in full sun for awhile and let them bleach out naturally:)
