Does anybody know what kind of flower this is?
They're growing on vines throughout southern, sea-side New England.
It looks like a small flowering Clematis. It is difficult to see the leaf shape from this picture, but it does look like this type of Clematis:

I agree - it looks like a clematis. They are not native, but they are popular, attractive and usually easy-to-grow.
