I have them in Fla, and they take over everything, their underground roots will kill out everything else eventually so be careful.  The pink ones take over by spitting their seeds, the lavendar ones by the root growth. I try to pull them every time I have a few minutes, but they are very tough.

I know that it has been a real problem in Florida due to the lack of frost. It is a plant you have to stay on top of. I use it in places that I can't get anything else to grow. The hummingbirds love it.

Ruellia is really pretty but rather invasive. I would opt for a container to enjoy it.
    That's a huge grasshopper! :>)
