Have you ever purchased furniture or other items for your home from a reclamation or salvage yard?
I am interested in peoples views on buying old goods and up-cycling them. If you have purchased from these yards was it a good experience? Did it save you any money?
All the time!!! That's one of my favorite things to do. My husband actually goes along with me. He's very handy and creative and can see the potential of a piece of furniture or item and then I'm the hard bargainer. So we work the garage sales like a team. He spots to pieces he has ideas for and then I see how cheap I can get them.
I think it's easier to have a positive experience when you are reclaming or upcycling for yourself or friends and family. I think it's harder when you are trying to do it for profit. But I'm sure you can be successful at that too : )
Thanks, this is really interesting, i love the concept of taking something old and discarded and giving it a new life in the home with a lick of paint or some amazing detail that makes it individual and unique. It sounds like you make a great team
But of course, and saving money is always a plus.I love to update old things, it expresses my creative side. With very little work, you can turn something old into something great. As they say, one man's trash is another one's treasure.
One of my favorite coffee tables was an old wire spool that I sanded and refinished back in 1973 that had been discarded by the electric company.
Absolutely yes. Mattresses and pillows - NO! I have found truly great stuff at a Habitat for Humanity warehouse near me. Bargains abound - just check it out before you buy.
No, never. I simply do not have the time necessary for discovering great bargains.
I only use to buy new furniture from the Albert Graham Limited in the UK and don't like to purchase old furniture.

Just curious, what was the last piece of furniture you bought? Where did you buy it? Were you happy with it? What do you wish was different if anything? How was your sales experience?

What essential items/furniture should one have in a small entrance hallway?e.g. are there any items which can double as something else, any space saving tips. Additionally, any thoughts as to how to make it feel larger than it actually is will be welcome.
