Does anyone have any experience or know someone that is living in the country and off grid?
What personal and physical skills are most needed? Are you glad you did it? Or is urban living too good to let it go?
Their are regulations against such things the government has to get its taxes dollars....I read an article about a year ago a lady in Florida was being threatened with legal action as well as her property being taken away from her if she didn't reconect her home to the sewer and water main.
As well as a man in Toronto Canada who had to pay outrageous fines for having a windmill on his property.
This angers me because I would love to have my own self sufficient property
I remember a 1960s nuclear war scifi book set 100 years after the war. The New Amish had distinct clothing from the Old Amish, out of respect for the people most prepared to continue on after the war life unchanged.
If you don't want to go Amish, the Mennonites have diesel engines and some have plain cars but seek to be independent of outside society. And you get a whole community with its own medical practitioners and schools, community support as insurance / old age help, and you aren't alone when there is a disaster.
